Franchise SEO that scales without copy-and-paste.
A franchise wins search one territory at a time, but it's managed from head office. Customers search for a service near them; would-be franchisees search for the brand and the numbers. Franchise SEO means giving every location a page and profile that earns its place, keeping the brand consistent, and deciding clearly who controls what.
Illustration of Google's local results
Franchise SEO is search optimisation for a brand with many locations, usually some run by franchisees. It covers a scalable structure of unique location pages, Google Business Profiles managed and verified at scale, consistent brand content with room for local detail, review management across locations, and pages that attract prospective franchise owners.
Two audiences. Very different searches.
Your customers want the nearest location. Your future franchisees want the brand's story and the investment. Most franchise sites only plan for one of them.
Ready to buy locally
Won by each location's Google Business Profile and a location page with real local detail, hours, offers the franchisor allows and a way to book.
Picking a location
Won by location pages that answer practical questions and a store locator Google can crawl, so the right location shows for the right town and nobody lands on a dead page.
Thinking of buying in
Won by a franchise development section that explains the model, the process and the support, with investment details handled the way the FTC Franchise Rule requires.
Why franchise SEO is a governance job
The ranking work is familiar. Deciding who's allowed to do it, and how, is what separates healthy franchise systems from messy ones.
Corporate and franchisees need clear lanes
When the rules are vague, franchisees build their own websites, open duplicate profiles and hire their own agencies. Rankings get split, the brand drifts and nobody knows which listing is real.
- A written policy on who owns domains, profiles and review replies
- One approved route for local content requests from franchisees
Location pages at scale, without doorways
Google's spam policies list "substantially similar pages that are closer to search results than a clearly defined, browseable hierarchy" as doorway abuse. A hundred location pages that differ only in the town name fit that description. Each needs something only that location has.
- Local team, hours, parking, services offered and local reviews per page
- A crawlable locator hub linking every location in a clear hierarchy
Profiles have to be verified and managed in bulk
Google offers bulk verification for businesses with 10 or more locations of the same brand, through Business Profile Manager. Agencies holding several businesses in one account can't use it, so the brand's own organisation account should hold the locations.
- Every location in one brand-owned account, with franchisees as managers
- Same name and core category across locations, as Google's guidelines expect
Brand consistency versus local flavour
Head office wants the same message everywhere. Search rewards pages that feel local. The answer is a template with locked brand blocks and open local blocks, so franchisees add real detail without rewriting the brand.
- Brand copy, offers and legal lines controlled centrally
- Local photos, staff, events and community work added by each location
Reviews across a hundred locations
The FTC's rule on consumer reviews, in force since October 2024, bans fake reviews, undisclosed insider reviews and suppressing negative ones. Google also bans review gating and incentives. One rogue franchisee can put the whole brand in an awkward spot.
- One review policy for the whole system, written into training
- Response templates franchisees can personalise, with escalation for tough ones
Franchise development is a second website
People researching a franchise read about investment, territory and support for months. Under the FTC Franchise Rule, financial performance claims belong only in Item 19 of your disclosure document, and buyers must get that document at least 14 days before they sign or pay.
- Development pages reviewed by your franchise counsel
- Searches like brand plus franchise cost answered without loose earnings claims
Who should run franchise SEO?
There are three common models. We usually recommend the third, but it depends on how your franchise agreement handles marketing.
| Corporate runs everything | Franchisees run their own | Hybrid | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brand consistency | High | Low, every location drifts | High, with local sections |
| Local relevance | Often thin, pages look identical | High, but uneven | High where franchisees contribute |
| Profile control | Central, clean, slow to update | Fragmented, duplicates common | Central ownership, local managers |
| Cost | One budget, usually from the marketing fund | Many small budgets, many agencies | Central retainer plus local time |
| Biggest risk | Doorway-style location pages | Duplicate sites and listings splitting rankings | Needs a clear policy to work |

What we do for franchise systems
Built for franchisors and multi-location brands that want consistent growth across every territory.
Governance and SEO policy
A clear split of who controls what, covering domains, profiles, local pages and reviews, written so franchisees can follow it without calling head office every week.
Location page system
A location template with brand and local sections, a crawlable locator, LocalBusiness schema per location, and a process for franchisees to supply local detail.
Google Business Profiles at scale
Bulk verification support, consistent names and categories, store codes, and a monthly sweep for duplicates, wrong hours and unwanted edits across every location.
Review management across locations
A single review request process that complies with Google and FTC rules, location-level review reporting, and reply templates that sound like people, not a call centre.
Franchise development SEO
Pages for the opportunity, the process, the ideal candidate and territory availability, built to rank for franchise-buyer searches and reviewed with your counsel before publishing.
Reporting by location and region
Calls, bookings and direction requests by location, roll-ups by region, and development enquiries reported separately. Plus AI search visibility across your brand and locations.
Audit the system
Technical audit, a full inventory of location pages, profiles, duplicates and franchisee-owned sites, review patterns by location, and a draft governance policy.
Build the template
Location page template and locator rebuilt, the first wave of locations moved over with real local content, profile names and categories aligned, and the review policy rolled out.
Scale and sell
Remaining locations migrated in waves, franchise development pages built and reviewed with your counsel, and the first report by location, region and development enquiries.

How much does franchise SEO cost?
Our published SEO price is $1,199 a month. On the first call we'll be straight about how far that goes for your number of locations and which territories or fixes to start with. Some systems pay for SEO centrally from a brand marketing fund rather than location by location.
How long does franchise SEO take?
Profile fixes and duplicate clean-up can help within weeks. Rebuilding location pages across a large system happens in waves, so results arrive location by location over several months. Franchise development terms are usually competitive and take longer, because established brands and franchise directories already hold them.
Can franchisees run their own websites?
They can if your agreement allows it, but it usually hurts more than it helps. Separate franchisee sites compete with the brand, duplicate content and confuse customers. Google's spam policies also treat clusters of near-identical sites as a doorway tactic. A brand-owned location page with local sections the franchisee controls is the cleaner model.
What rules apply to franchise development marketing?
In the US, the FTC Franchise Rule says financial performance representations can only be made if they appear in Item 19 of your disclosure document with written substantiation, and buyers must get the document at least 14 calendar days before signing or paying. State franchise laws can add more. Your franchise counsel should review development pages before they go live.
Who should own the Google Business Profiles?
The brand, in its own organisation account, with franchisees added as managers for their location. That keeps profiles in one place, makes bulk verification possible for 10 or more locations, and stops listings walking out the door when a franchisee leaves the system.
Can you guarantee every location will rank in the map pack?
No. Map results depend on where the searcher is, the competition in each territory and each location's reviews. Some locations will outperform others. What you can hold us to is the monthly work, reporting for every location, and a clear view of which territories need extra attention.
