SEO for multi-trade home service companies

Home services SEO for one brand, every trade.

Once you run heating, cooling, plumbing and electrical under one name, SEO stops being a single-trade checklist. You need a site that ranks for each trade on its own merits, a Google profile that doesn't confuse anyone, and a brand people search for by name. Home services SEO done properly turns one emergency call into a customer who uses you for everything.

Quick answer

Home services SEO is search optimisation for companies offering several trades, such as HVAC, plumbing and electrical, under one brand. Beyond normal local SEO, it means organising the site by trade, choosing Google Business Profile categories carefully, building pages for membership plans, and growing searches for your brand as well as for each service.

How customers search

Emergencies, installs and your own name.

A multi-trade company gets searched three ways. Most single-trade playbooks only plan for the first.

Emergency

Broken today

furnace not workingwater heater leakinghalf the house has no power

Won by your profile and a repair page per trade with clear same-day availability. Each trade's emergency page has to stand alone, because nobody with a flooded basement reads about air conditioners.

Replacement

The big install

new ac unit costtankless water heater installationelectrical panel upgrade

Won by detailed install pages with equipment options, honest price drivers, financing if you offer it and rebate information where it applies. These are your highest-ticket jobs in every trade.

Brand

They already know you

your brand reviewsyour brand plumbingyour brand maintenance plan

Won by a brand search result you control: homepage, membership page, review profiles and a page for every trade that shows up under your name. This is the search that tells you the multi-trade model is working.

Why it's its own job

What changes when you add a second trade

These are the problems a single-trade plumber never has to think about.

01

The site needs a spine

Bolting electrical onto a plumbing website usually produces one long 'services' page that ranks for nothing. Each trade needs its own hub, with its own repair, install and maintenance pages underneath.

  • Hubs for heating, cooling, plumbing and electrical, each with child pages
  • Navigation that lets people jump between trades easily
02

One profile has to speak for every trade

Google allows a service-area business one Business Profile, and its guidelines favour a short list of categories over a long one. The primary category should match the trade that drives the most revenue, with additional categories covering the rest.

  • Primary category chosen on revenue, not habit
  • Services listed under each category so all trades are visible
03

A domain per trade looks like a doorway

Some companies buy a plumbing domain and an HVAC domain and run near-identical sites. Google's spam policies list "multiple websites with slight variations" as doorway abuse. One strong domain is usually the better bet.

  • Old trade sites redirected into the main domain
  • Acquired-brand sites folded in with care, not switched off overnight
04

Local Services Ads work one category at a time

Google lists HVAC, plumbing and electrician as separate Local Services Ads categories, each with its own screening requirements. Licences, budgets and lead quality differ by trade, and your SEO plan should account for where ads already cover you.

  • Licence details for each trade checked before you enrol
  • SEO focus on trades and towns where ads are expensive
05

The membership plan is a ranking asset

A maintenance plan that covers the furnace tune-up, the water heater flush and an electrical safety check is something only a multi-trade company can sell. Give it a proper page and it ranks for plan searches, earns brand searches and makes cross-selling feel natural.

  • A membership page that lists every trade's benefits
  • Pages for each trade linking back to the plan
06

Brand searches grow, and need watching

As you add trades, more customers search your name plus a service instead of a generic term. That traffic converts well, but it also hides weak non-brand rankings if you report both together.

  • Brand and non-brand reported separately in every report
  • Review profiles that mention more than one trade
Where the budget goes

SEO, Local Services Ads or search ads?

Multi-trade firms usually run all three. The trick is not paying twice for the same job.

What we do

What we do for multi-trade companies

Everything in single-trade local SEO, plus the structure that holds several trades together.

01

Site architecture by trade

We map every service you offer into trade hubs and child pages, fix internal links between them, and redirect old pages and microsites without losing what they already rank for.

02

Google Business Profile strategy

Primary and additional categories, services under each, photos of each crew type at work and posts that rotate through trades by season, within Google's guidelines.

03

Repair and install pages per trade

Separate emergency, repair, replacement and maintenance pages for heating, cooling, plumbing and electrical, so each trade competes with the specialists in its own results.

04

Membership and cross-sell pages

A membership plan page built to rank, and links between related services, like a panel upgrade page that points to EV charger installs and whole-home surge protection.

05

Reviews across trades

A request after every job, sent to every customer as Google's policy requires, with replies that name the service. Over time your reviews prove you do more than one thing well.

06

Tracking by trade

Calls and bookings in GA4 tagged by trade and page, split by brand and non-brand. Plus AI search visibility, so ChatGPT and Google's AI Overviews know you handle all of it.

The plan

Your first 90 days

Structure first, because content added to a messy site gets lost. What affects the timeline.

Month 1

Map every trade

Technical audit, profile category review, ranking snapshots for each trade in each town you serve, call tracking by trade, and a plan for any old trade domains.

Month 2

Build the hubs

Trade hubs and the highest-value repair and install pages built or rewritten, redirects completed, the membership page launched and dispatch set up to send a review request after every completed call.

Month 3

Connect and cross-sell

Seasonal pages for the next shift in demand, links between related services, local links and the first report showing calls by trade and brand versus non-brand.

Frequently asked questions

How is multi-trade SEO different from single-trade SEO?

A single-trade company optimises one set of services. A multi-trade company has to rank for several at once from one domain and one profile, choose a primary category, avoid duplicate sites, and connect trades so a plumbing customer learns you also do electrical. The basics are the same. The structure, profile decisions and reporting are not.

How much does home services SEO cost?

Our price for SEO is $1,199 a month for the whole company, covering every trade on one site, profile work, content, links and reporting. Market pricing rises with each extra trade and town you target. If you add search ads, SEO and PPC together cost $1,599 a month with us.

Should each trade have its own Google Business Profile?

Usually not. Google's guidelines allow a service-area business one profile, and to keep categories to the few that describe the core business. Separate profiles for each trade run from the same office go against those guidelines. If a trade truly operates as a separate business with its own location and staff, that's a different conversation.

We bought a plumbing company. Should we keep its website?

Often the answer is to fold it into your main site gradually, redirecting its pages to the matching new ones so you keep what it already ranks for. Running two near-identical sites risks Google's doorway rules and splits your reviews and links. We plan the move page by page so the phones don't go quiet.

How long before we see results across all trades?

Structure and profile fixes can help within weeks. Each trade then moves at its own pace: a trade you've run for years usually responds faster than one you added last spring. We'll tell you which trade to push first based on demand and competition in your area.

Can you guarantee top rankings for every trade?

No. Each trade competes against different specialists in each town, and only Google decides the order. What we can promise is the work itself, reporting split by trade, and an honest view of which trades are moving and which are stuck.
