Law firm SEO that counts signed cases, not clicks.
Someone typing "car accident lawyer" at 11pm is not browsing. They call the first firm that looks credible, nearby and awake. We build law firm SEO around your practice areas and your intake desk, and we write every page inside the advertising rules your bar holds you to.
The rules we write within
- ABA Model Rule 7.1: no false or misleading communication about a lawyer or their services, and a true statement can still mislead if it leaves out a fact needed for context. Case results and comparisons get written with that in mind.
- ABA Model Rule 7.2(c): a lawyer can only claim to be a certified specialist if the certifying body is approved or ABA-accredited and is named in the copy. Florida's Rule 4-7.14 adds that specialisation and expertise claims must be objectively verifiable.
- ABA Model Rule 7.3 restricts live person-to-person solicitation for financial gain, and Rule 7.2(b) limits paying anyone to recommend you. Our work stays inbound: pages, profiles and guides people choose to find.
- State rules differ and change. New York removed its "Attorney Advertising" label and mandatory prior-results disclaimer from June 1, 2026, while Florida still reviews past results and testimonials closely. Your rules and your sign-off decide the final copy. We make no outcome claims.
Law firm SEO is the work of getting a legal practice found in Google's map pack, organic results and AI answers when someone searches for help with a specific legal problem, such as "DUI lawyer [city]" or "how to file for divorce in [state]". It means one strong page per practice area, an accurate profile for each office, reviews, links and bar-compliant copy.
Every practice area searches differently.
A person facing a DUI charge and a couple writing their wills don't search the same way, read the same way or decide on the same timescale.
| Practice area | Typical searches | What the person needs | Page we build |
|---|---|---|---|
| Personal injury | car accident lawyer near me, truck accident attorney [city], how long does a settlement take | A quick callback and a clear answer on fees | Separate pages by accident type, a plain explanation of contingency fees and what happens after they call, and a phone number that works on mobile at night |
| Family law | divorce lawyer [county], child custody attorney, how much does a divorce cost in [state] | Discretion, a sense of cost and who they'll actually deal with | County-level process guides, an honest fee-structure page and attorney bios with real photos |
| Criminal defence | DUI lawyer [city], what happens at an arraignment, [charge] penalties [state] | Answers now, often for a relative who has just been arrested | Charge-by-charge pages that explain the local court process, with a short, mobile-first route to a call |
| Estate planning and probate | estate planning attorney near me, will vs trust [state], probate lawyer [county] | Time to compare, often as a couple or a family | Explainers on wills, trusts, probate and powers of attorney, plus flat-fee packages if you offer them |
| Bankruptcy | chapter 7 lawyer [city], can I keep my car in chapter 13, stop wage garnishment | Reassurance and plain answers about what they'll lose | Chapter-by-chapter pages and a free consultation path that doesn't make anyone feel judged |
Why legal search is its own sport
The basics of local SEO still apply. These are the things that decide which firm gets the call.
Directories crowd page one
Search almost any practice area plus a city and you'll meet Avvo, FindLaw, Justia, Super Lawyers and Lawyers.com before many firm websites. You can't remove them. You can have complete, matching profiles on the ones that rank, and pages specific enough to beat a generic listing for your own case types.
Local Services Ads sit on top
Google's Local Services Ads now show a single Google Verified badge, earned by passing screening that for law firms includes a state bar licence check for each lawyer. They charge per lead and sit above the map pack, so they shape how searchers judge everyone below. SEO and ads work best when the profile, reviews and pages all tell the same story.
Multi-office firms trip over their profiles
Google allows one profile per real location and one per public-facing practitioner, but not extra profiles per specialisation, and no practice-area keywords stuffed into the firm name. Breaking these rules puts a profile at risk of suspension.
Intake decides the return
A search that produces a call nobody answers is worth nothing. We track calls and forms by practice area and push the source into your intake process, so you can see which pages produce consultations, which produce signed cases, and which just produce noise.
AI answers are the new front desk
Some legal questions now get answered by ChatGPT or a Google AI Overview before anyone visits a firm's website. Clear, well-sourced guides to those questions are what those tools quote. Here's how answer engine optimisation works.
What the retainer covers for a firm
One monthly fee, the whole search job. You practise law. We make sure the right people can find you, and that intake can see where they came from.
Practice-area architecture
A page for each area you want more matters in, and child pages where the searches split: car, truck and motorcycle accidents under personal injury, custody and divorce under family. No single "Practice Areas" page trying to rank for twelve things at once.
A profile for every real office
Google Business Profiles for each staffed office, built to Google's rules: your real firm name, no keyword stuffing, no virtual offices, and practitioner profiles only for public-facing lawyers. Reviews requested and answered without confirming who is a client.
Directory and citation clean-up
Consistent name, address and phone across Avvo, Justia, FindLaw, Super Lawyers, Martindale-Hubbell, your state bar's directory and local bar associations. Old addresses and departed partners get found and fixed.
Copy written for sign-off
Drafts arrive with every claim about experience, results, specialisation and testimonials highlighted, so your responsible attorney or ethics counsel can check them against your state's rules quickly. Nothing goes live without your approval.
Answers people actually ask
Plain-English guides to the questions behind your best cases, like what happens after a DUI arrest in your county or how probate works in your state. These are the pages AI tools quote and that earn links from local press.
Intake tracking to signed cases
Call tracking, form and chat attribution, and a source field in your intake or case management software, so we can follow a search to a consultation and a signed retainer, not just a visit.
SEO, Local Services Ads or legal directories?
Most firms use some of each. The question is where the next dollar does the most work for your practice areas.
| SEO | Local Services Ads | Legal directories | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How you pay | A monthly retainer or in-house time | Per lead, for leads related to your services | Free basic profiles on many, paid upgrades and placements on most |
| What you control | Your pages, your copy, your case-type focus | Your profile, budget and hours; Google ranks the ads | Your profile; the directory decides the layout and who appears beside you |
| Speed | Months for competitive practice areas | Fast once screening is complete | Days |
| Hoops to clear | Google's guidelines and your bar's rules | Local Services screening before you get the Google Verified badge: identity, a state bar licence check for each lawyer, and liability insurance where local law requires it | Each directory's own verification, plus your bar's rules |
| When you stop paying | Pages, links and reviews keep working | You disappear from the ad slots | The basic profile usually stays, the visibility you paid for goes |
Paid channels buy this month's consultations; SEO lowers the cost of next year's. We go through the trade-off in SEO vs PPC: which should you invest in first?

Published price. Proof from harder markets.
Our SEO retainer is $1,199 a month, with the same deliverables listed on our SEO packages page. We haven't published a law firm case study, and we won't dress one up. What we can show is the same process working in markets where Google and the ad platforms say no far more often than a bar association does.

How much does SEO cost for a law firm?
Hello Bleu's SEO retainer is $1,199 a month, covering technical work, practice-area pages, Google Business Profiles, content, links and reporting. Quotes across the legal market vary widely because the work does: a one-office estate planning practice in a small city needs far less than a multi-office injury firm in a major metro. We'll tell you on the first call whether our retainer fits your market.
How long does law firm SEO take?
Profile fixes and cleaner citations can improve map visibility within weeks. Ranking a practice-area page for a contested search like "personal injury lawyer" in a large city usually takes many months of steady work, and longer if competitors have years of links. Niche areas and smaller towns tend to move faster. We'll show you the realistic picture for your areas before you sign anything.
Can we publish case results and client reviews on our site?
Usually, but your state decides how. ABA Model Rule 7.1 treats a true statement as misleading if it leaves out facts needed for context, and states go further. Florida flags past results that aren't objectively verifiable, while New York dropped its mandatory prior-results disclaimer in June 2026. We draft results and testimonial sections with your rules in hand and your sign-off at the end.
Should every office have its own page and Google Business Profile?
Every real, staffed office should. Google's guidelines don't allow virtual offices or unstaffed mailbox addresses, and a firm can't create extra profiles to cover each specialisation. Each office page should say something specific: who works there, which courts it's near and which matters it handles. Swapping the city name on one template is the doorway pattern Google's spam policies target.
Do we still need Avvo, Justia or Local Services Ads?
Probably some of them. Directories rank for a lot of legal searches, so a complete, consistent profile on the ones in your results is worth having. Local Services Ads sit above everything and only charge for leads, but you vanish when the budget stops. SEO is the part you own. Check paid arrangements against Rule 7.2(b), which limits paying anyone for recommending you.
Can you guarantee our firm ranks first for personal injury lawyer?
No. Nobody controls Google's results, and an agency promising a top spot for one of the most contested phrases in law is a red flag. What we commit to is the monthly work, open reporting and tracking that shows which searches turn into consultations and which turn into signed cases.
