Plumber SEO for the call that can't wait till Monday.
Nobody shops around with water coming through the ceiling. They search, tap the first plumber who looks open and trustworthy, and call. We build plumber SEO around that moment, and around the slower, bigger-ticket jobs like water heaters and sewer lines, then measure it in answered calls.
Illustration of Google's local results
Plumber SEO is how a plumbing company earns a spot on Google when someone searches for an emergency plumber, a water heater replacement or a drain they can't clear. It covers your Google Business Profile, a page for each service, genuine service-area pages, reviews, local links and tracking every call back to the search that produced it.
Three kinds of plumbing search. Three different pages.
A flooded kitchen, a cold shower and a slow drain all start on Google. They don't want the same answer, and they don't move at the same speed.
Needed in the next hour
Won in the map pack first. Your profile needs accurate hours, a phone someone answers and recent reviews. The landing page needs a tap-to-call number at the top and nothing else in the way.
Broken, but livable
Won by a dedicated water heater page that covers tank versus tankless, gas versus electric, the brands you fit, honest price ranges and how fast you can install.
Researched before booking
Won by detailed service pages that explain the job, the options and how much of the yard gets dug up. These buyers read two or three sites before they ring anyone.
What makes plumbing SEO its own trade
A general local SEO checklist covers maybe half of it. The rest comes from how plumbing work is actually bought.
The phone is the conversion
An emergency search ends in a call, not a form. If calls roll to voicemail after six, every ranking you win at night is wasted. And with Local Services Ads, a missed call during your business hours can still count as a lead you pay for.
- Profile hours that match when someone actually picks up
- Call tracking that shows missed calls by page and by hour
Service-area pages, not doorway pages
Twenty copies of one page with only the suburb name changed is the oldest trick in plumbing SEO. Google's spam policies name it directly: pages aimed at particular cities or regions that "funnel users to one page" are listed under doorway abuse, and breaking those policies can cost you rankings or remove pages from results entirely.
- A suburb gets its own page once you have jobs and reviews there
- One clear service-area hub that lists everywhere else
Your profile has rules of its own
Google's guidelines say service-area businesses should hide their address, keep the service area within about two hours' drive and leave extra words out of the business name. A profile called "Best 24/7 Plumber Springfield" is a suspension waiting to happen.
- Real business name, specific primary category, honest service area
- Services and photos kept current, not set once and forgotten
Local Services Ads sit above you
Local Services Ads can appear above the map pack for plumbing searches. Since October 2025 Google shows one Google Verified badge in place of the old Google Guarantee badge, and plumbing counts as an urgent category, with extra screening that includes the technicians you send to homes.
- Licences, insurance and background checks kept current
- Your ad profile and organic reviews telling the same story
Reviews work the night shift
At 2am nobody reads your About page. They read stars and a number. BrightLocal's 2026 consumer survey found 47% of people won't use a business with fewer than 20 reviews, which is a low bar to clear and a costly one to miss.
- A review request sent the day the job closes
- Replies that mention the actual job, not a template
Big jobs need proof on the page
Water heater swaps, repipes and sewer replacements are considered purchases. A page that explains options, permits, disruption and rough costs beats a page that says "call for a quote" and hopes.
- Brands, tank sizes and fuel types you install, named on the page
- Photos from your own jobs, with the town in the caption
Where should the next plumbing dollar go?
Most plumbing companies run two or three of these at once. They do different jobs, so it helps to see them side by side.
| SEO | Local Services Ads | Lead marketplaces | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What you pay for | Work on pages, profile and reviews you keep | Each valid lead, priced by location, job type and bidding mode | Leads, memberships or both, depending on the platform |
| Missed calls | Cost you a job, not a fee | A missed call in business hours can still be a charged lead | Depends on each platform's rules |
| Who else gets the lead | Nobody. The caller picked you | Nobody. The customer contacts you directly | Can be shared with other plumbers, depending on the platform |
| Time to first call | Weeks for profile fixes, months for competitive pages | Days, once screening is complete | Days |
| Repeat contact | No extra cost per call | Not charged again for the same customer within 15 days | Depends on the platform |
Paid channels fill this week's schedule. SEO lowers what next winter's calls cost you. We make the full case in our SEO vs PPC guide.
What we do for plumbing companies
One retainer that covers everything search needs. You fix the leaks. We make sure the right ones find you.
Google Business Profile management
Primary category, services, service area, hours and photos kept inside Google's guidelines, plus posts when demand shifts, like the first hard freeze of the winter.
Emergency landing pages
Fast, plain pages built for a phone held in a wet hand: your number at the top, the area you cover, what happens when you call, and nothing that slows the page down.
Water heater, drain and sewer pages
Dedicated pages for the profitable work: tank and tankless water heaters, drain cleaning, hydro jetting, camera inspections, trenchless repair, repiping and fixture installs.
Service-area pages that pass the doorway test
Built from real jobs, local reviews and genuine local detail, such as older pipework in a particular neighbourhood, with a hub page that shows Google everywhere you work.
Reviews and citations
A review routine your techs will actually use, plus consistent listings on the directories plumbing customers check, from Yelp and Angi to the Better Business Bureau.
Call tracking to booked jobs
Tracking numbers and GA4 events that tie each call and form to the page and search behind it, so you can see whether drain pages book more work than water heater pages. We also check how AI search tools describe you.
Your first 90 days
What we do first, and why. How quickly you climb depends on your market. Here's what decides it.
Answer and audit
Call tracking goes in first so we have a baseline. Then the site audit, profile fixes, directory listings tidied, and a chart of which plumbers own each service and suburb in the map pack right now.
Build the money pages
Emergency, water heater, drain and sewer pages rebuilt or written, schema added, the service-area hub launched, and a two-minute review request built into how your techs close out a job.
Get ahead of the freeze
Frozen-pipe and burst-pipe content live before the first cold snap, the first town pages built on real jobs, local link outreach and a report showing calls by page and search.
Published price. Proof from harder markets.
Our SEO retainer is $1,199 a month, with the same deliverables listed on our SEO packages page. Plumbing is a new vertical for our published results, so there's no plumber case study here. Instead, look at cannabis and wellness, where Google polices content and ads far more tightly than it ever polices a drain-cleaning page.

What does SEO cost a plumbing company?
Hello Bleu charges a flat $1,199 a month for SEO. That pays for site fixes, new and rewritten service pages, profile management, review and link work, and a monthly report. Agency pricing across the market varies a lot with how many towns you serve and how crowded your metro is, so compare deliverables, not just the number. Our SEO cost guide explains the common pricing models.
How long before SEO brings a plumber more calls?
Profile fixes, correct hours and a steady flow of reviews can lift map-pack visibility within weeks. Organic pages for crowded terms like "water heater replacement" in a big metro can take the better part of a year. Before you spend anything, we'll show you where you rank today and what's realistic for your area.
Do I need a separate page for each town I serve?
No. You need a separate page where you have something real to say: jobs done there, reviews from local customers, local quirks like older pipework or hard water. Everywhere else can sit on a service-area hub. Google's guidelines also suggest keeping a profile's service area within about two hours' drive, so a page for every town in the state won't help.
Can I use a call tracking number on my Google Business Profile?
Yes, as long as you control it. Google's guidelines ask for a local number under the business's direct control rather than a central call centre line. We usually set a local tracking number as the primary and keep your main line listed as an additional number, so your details stay consistent with your directory listings.
Do I still need Local Services Ads if I'm doing SEO?
Often, yes. Local Services Ads can sit above the map pack and you pay per valid lead, which suits urgent plumbing calls. But you need to pass Google's screening and you stop showing the day you stop paying. SEO builds the pages, profile and reviews that keep working. Many plumbers run both and shift budget as rankings improve.
Will you promise me the top spot for "plumber near me"?
No, and walk away from anyone who does. A homeowner two streets over can see a different map pack from you, and Google decides the order, not agencies. Our promise is narrower and more useful: the agreed work done every month, and a report that shows which calls came from search and which pages earned them.
