Marketing ROI
calculator.
Did that campaign pay for itself? ROI on profit, not revenue. Free, no sign-up.
Run the numbers.
A free marketing ROI calculator for any campaign or channel. Enter what it cost and the sales it brought in, and it works out your return on profit, the way an accountant would, plus your cost per new customer.
Every $1 you spent came back with $1.00 of profit on top.
PROFITABLE: This marketing made $2,000 in profit after paying for itself. The revenue-based figure of 400% would have overstated it.

Multiply the revenue your marketing brought in by your gross margin to get the profit it produced. Subtract everything the marketing cost, including ad spend, fees, tools and content, then divide by that cost. A $2,000 campaign that brings in $10,000 of sales at a 40% margin makes $4,000 of profit, so its ROI is ($4,000 − $2,000) ÷ $2,000 = 100%.
The marketing ROI formula.
How to calculate marketing ROI in three steps. No black box.
01
Profit
revenue × gross marginA $100 sale that costs you $60 to make and ship is $40 of return, not $100.
02
Total cost
ad spend + fees, tools & contentLeave out the agency fee or the software and the ROI looks better than it is.
03
ROI
(profit − cost) ÷ cost0% means the marketing exactly paid for itself. Anything above that is real profit.

Good questions.
The things people ask us most about marketing returns.
What is a good marketing ROI?
Anything above 0% means the marketing paid for itself out of profit. Many businesses aim for at least 100%, which means every dollar spent came back with a dollar of profit on top. Judge it against your other options for the same money, and give channels like SEO longer, because their returns build over time.
Should I use revenue or profit to calculate ROI?
Profit. Using revenue ignores what your product costs to make and deliver, so it makes campaigns look several times better than they are. This calculator shows both, so you can see the gap.
What costs should I include?
Everything the marketing needed: ad spend, agency or freelancer fees, software, design, content and any discounts you gave away. If a cost would disappear when you stopped the campaign, count it.
What is the difference between ROI and ROAS?
ROAS is revenue divided by ad spend, the number Google and Meta report. Marketing ROI uses profit and every cost, so it tells you whether the channel actually made money. Use the ROAS calculator to steer campaigns and this one to decide where the budget goes.
How do I measure the ROI of SEO?
SEO takes months to rank, so measure it over 6 to 12 months, not one. To forecast what ranking would be worth before you start, use the SEO ROI calculator. Our guide to how to calculate marketing ROI walks through every channel with examples.
